THROUGH TIME

FOLLOWING THE VINES AND LEGENDS

The route continues along the shores of Çanakkale to Bozcaada. Carrying the winds of ancient Tenedos, the island marks the point where vineyards meet the sea, setting a new rhythm for the journey. Along this route, stories that shaped mythology, an unbroken tradition of viticulture spanning centuries, and a living culture of production that endures to this day come together. Here, the traces carried from the past can still be felt in the same wind and upon the same land. As each layer of this remarkable landscape is discovered, the Troia Wine Route reveals itself as an increasingly inspiring journey.

THE STOPS ALONG THE ROUTE

VINEYARDS & DESTINATIONS

The Troia Wine Route brings together the vineyards that have long been home to the vines of these lands and the places that transform the flavours born from this soil into memorable experiences.

As you travel along the route, each stop invites you to slow down and embrace its own rhythm. Whether among the vineyards, gathered around a table, or simply taking in the landscape, you encounter a culture that continues to thrive.

At the northern gateway of the route in Gallipoli, Yükseltan welcomes visitors among vineyards overlooking the sunset, where the scenery becomes as much a part of the experience as the wine itself. Long tables set among the vines evoke the legendary banquets once imagined for the gods of mythology.

Etruscan offers a different perspective, bringing to life wines crafted from grape varieties that the Etruscans once carried into Europe and later returned to their ancestral homeland. Surrounded by vineyards, it transforms every visit into more than a tasting experience—it becomes a journey through the remarkable history of the vine.

Overlooking the historic Dardanelles, a waterway that has witnessed countless victories and defining moments throughout history, Avec Hotel offers one of the region’s most contemporary and comfortable places to stay, where hospitality, wine, and gastronomy come together in perfect harmony.

On Bozcaada, Çamlıbağ and Talay tell this story through vineyards shaped by the island’s winds, welcoming tasting spaces, and the island’s distinctive, unhurried rhythm. Their historic vineyards and indigenous grape varieties reflect the quiet yet enduring continuity of a winemaking tradition that has flourished here for generations. Carrying forward the ancient viticultural and winemaking heritage that stretches from ancient Tenedos through Greek and Turkish communities to the present day, they preserve this legacy with great care, keeping alive the vision of Tenes and expressing it through every bottle they produce.

Each stop reveals another chapter of the route. In time, you realise that this is more than a journey to be travelled—it is a story to become part of. Asmadan then invites visitors into the memory of ancient Madytos. Through the Asmadan Museum of Viticultural History, it offers a journey into the generations of knowledge and tradition that have shaped these ancient lands. Around the table, through its wines, and among the vineyards at Bengodi, it becomes a place where the story of the route is not simply told, but truly lived.

CROSSROADS OF HISTORY

DISCOVER HISTORIC SITES & LIVING HERITAGE

This route extends far beyond the vineyards; it leads through a landscape shaped by thousands of years of history.

The journey begins on the Gallipoli Peninsula. In antiquity, Abydos stood as one of the most important crossings of the Hellespont, marking the link between Asia and Europe. On the opposite shore, Sestos formed the other side of this historic passage, bearing witness to centuries of trade, travel, and cultural exchange.

Continuing along the route, you arrive at Madytos, located in present-day Eceabat. With a history dating back to the 7th century BC, it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the Troas Region.

Further along lies Troy, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and far more than an archaeological site—it is one of the world’s most significant symbols of our shared human heritage.

Crossing the Dardanelles and heading south, the route reaches Bozcaada, known in antiquity as Tenedos. Celebrated in Homer’s epics, the island is both a place of mythology and a renowned centre of viticulture, where winemaking traditions have endured for centuries. Every place encountered along this route is more than a stop.

It is a crossing, a settlement, a layer of history.

Sometimes its presence is revealed through a stone, sometimes through the landscape, and sometimes simply through the wind, carrying the memory of those who came before. Following this route is not merely about completing an itinerary; it is about rediscovering, step by step, the traces of life that have flourished on these lands for millennia. The journey ultimately leads to Troy itself, the ancient city that gives the route its name. Founded around 3000 BC and inhabited until the Roman period, Troy is composed of nine principal archaeological layers, each built upon the remains of the last.

Together, these layers reveal an extraordinary continuity, spanning from the earliest Anatolian settlements to the Bronze Age city associated with the Hittite world, and onward through the Greek and Roman periods.
